The latest installation of nest boxes for our Microbats in the Young Shire project was recently completed with help from Lachlan Valley Tree Services just east of Young in the small village of Murringo. Thirty new microbat roosting boxes were placed in yellow box and white box trees on two private properties, as well as along the creek within the grounds of Murringo Public School.
This brings the total number of nest boxes installed across the Shire to 120! Keep your eye out for the boxes at other sites along Burrandong Creek, the Young Arboretum, Young Golf Club, Chinaman’s Dam or other parks and reserves. Boxes were also installed at all ten schools in the Young district. The black boxes, which are all numbered, are fixed to trees at a height of around 3-4 metres.
